Lecture
In our introduction to Photoshop 3, we will explore Adjustment layers
and Filters.

Tutorial
We watched three video demos covering:
1. Matching lighting, adjustment layers, and filters.
2. The Photoshop Pen Tool.

Practical
We're tasked with taking our best composition from the Week 3 digital
collage exercise and using the same Photoshop file to improvise it in Week
4. We'll achieve this by applying Adjustment Layers & Filters in
Photoshop and then explaining what we've learned from this process.

Fig 3.1 The chosen collage |
Description:
In my collage, I integrated several different elements, including two
buildings, an image of people in a building corridor, a plant, and a
neon-coloured fish. My intention was to strike a harmonious balance among
these diverse components, weaving them together into a visually cohesive
composition. The colour scheme I selected predominantly features neutral
tones, because I want it to accentuate the bright colours. I believe that
the interplay between these neutrals and the vibrant colours can foster a
captivating visual harmony. So, within this neutral colour palette, I
positioned the neon-coloured fish at the slightly off-centre of the
composition to enhance the visual impact. Overall, the experience of
creating this collage was enjoyable. This creative process has helped me
realise the importance of capturing attention and engaging compositions.

Fig 3.5 Collage After Applying Adjustment Layers &
Filters |
Description:
This is my collage after the application of adjustment layers and
filters. Based on the original colour scheme, I deliberately chose to
swap the colour tones, transforming the colour palette into a vibrant
neon scheme while rendering the fish in neutral tones. These adjustments
have continued to allow me to emphasise the interplay between vibrant
and neutral colours, resulting in a visually engaging composition. Much
like the original collage, the interplay between the neon bright
background and the grey fish still yields an enhanced visual impact.
Therefore, the process of creating this collage has been a rewarding
learning experience, emphasising the importance of colour choices in
visual composition. Overall, the application of adjustment layers and
filters has deepened my understanding of image editing.
Reflection
Playing with the colour of the layers is fun and easy. It's fascinating to see the same composition transform with different colours, bringing forth a new vision. Given that I had already made colour adjustments in week 3, I chose to completely alter the colour in week 4 to make a significant difference compared to the previous Digital Collage 2.
