REFLECTION
Experience
Compared to last year's typography class, this advanced typography class is much more interesting. We aren't confined by limitations like space or neatness; instead, we have more freedom to use any font we want and incorporate colour into our designs. This freedom, while liberating, also requires more time because it broadens our creative possibilities. I noticed that my work efficiency started to slow down from Task 2 onward, as I needed to spend more time exploring and generating ideas. The entirety of the three tasks was demanding but rewarding, significantly boosting my creativity. I found myself exploring different styles of art and design, and I thoroughly enjoyed the moments spent creating my designs. There was an indescribable feeling of accomplishment when I saw my work finally completed.
Observations
Throughout the course, I observed a noticeable improvement in my proficiency with design software, particularly Adobe Illustrator. I became more comfortable and efficient with the tools, allowing my creative process to flow more smoothly. Additionally, the mockup work we did enhanced my skills in Photoshop. I also realised the importance of patience and persistence in the creative process. The freedom we had in choosing fonts and colours, while initially overwhelming, ultimately led to a more fulfilling and enriching experience.
Findings
Over the 14 weeks of this course, I learned the value of thorough planning and preparation in design. The process of exploring different styles and ideas taught me to be more patient and persistent. My design skills have improved significantly, and I have become more adept at using Illustrator and Photoshop. The advanced typography class not only enhanced my technical skills but also my ability to think creatively. Overall, this class was a valuable and enjoyable experience.
